Two of us, one shared budget.
We’re Lionel and Irene and our budgeting journey began early in our relationship when month after month Irene would break down in tears because she felt powerless over what was going in and out of her account and wondering if she’d have enough to last her to her next income. Irene was doing her postgrad studies and was living off rental incomes, a bit of side work, and a family side business which was always chaotic and rarely consistent.
I didn’t have a budget yet, but I had the answer. I said, “Let’s start by writing down everything that comes in and everything that goes out.” We’ve never worried about our money again. We went from paper through several iterations of spreadsheets to get it to what it is now — something that we believe everyone can use to plan their budgets and track their spending.
